Take a few minutes to centre and reconnect during your day. Sweep away distractions and stress so that you may re-engage with a new perspective.

Stress can energize or frazzle.

Many of us invest too much emotion in the work environment, creating unnecessary negative stress. If you find yourself accepting stress throughout the day, losing focus or feeling fatigued, the quick unintrusive activity below may be just the thing you need to get back on track.

Column Grounding: Core and Spine

  • Perform this activity while sitting in a chair.
  • Check your posture and sit upright.
  • Imagine that there is an invisible thread holding your head up.
  • As your spine is attached to your head, it too is held straight.
  • Now, relax your shoulders and shoulder blades. Allow them to sink down.
  • For best results, close your eyes.
  • Breathe in using your diaphragm (belly-breathing).
  • As you breathe, imagine the air entering your body. It is bright light.
  • It enters through your nostrils and then travels down to a spot in the center of your body, just below the belly button.
  • Hold it for a second as a ball of brilliance within you, relaxing your shoulders.
  • As you exhale, imagine the bright breath traveling down your spinal column to the tip of the cord and then continuing straight down into the earth.
  • Take your next breath, repeating the above.
  • Continue until you feel that you have had a positive change of “mental space.”
  • Return to your day refreshed!
