A Father’s Recovery
Back

Early in January 1997, my father was hospitalized at the YunNan Provincial Medical College. He underwent exploratory surgery and was diagnosed with malignant glandular cancer. We were told to prepare for a major operation, in which his pancreas, a portion of his gallbladder and some of the surrounding tissue would be removed. Further, the doctor advised that even after a successful operation of this kind, my father would likely only survive a few more months. Without the operation, he wouldn’t live through the next three weeks.

Immediately upon receiving notice of my father's situation, the whole family flew to KunMing to be with him.

My father was lying in bed—his face was dark and yellow. I’d never heard his voice sound so weak. He couldn’t eat or get up from his bed… life-support was all that was keeping him with us. At this point, my father had nothing to do but wait for death. We were told to prepare ourselves in case the operation failed.

Quite remarkably, my father was calm—fearless, even—but me, I couldn't just passively wait for the outcome of some risky operation.

Three years before, in April 1994, I’d joined the intermediate Puti Meditation class in BeiDaiHe. During those years, I’d helped people deal with some minor problems like the flu or poor digestion, but I had no idea if the methods I’d learned could help my father. Moreover, he’d been a Communist Party member his entire life. He didn't believe that anything unproven by science could help him… let alone potentially save his life. Despite all this, it seemed worth a try.

On January 28th, I began to practice Puti Meditation methods on my father, based on what I learned in class. I tried my best to remember everything Master JinBodhi had taught me.  Sometimes, it was as though the master was right there beside me, guiding me as I applied myself to improving my father’s health. Later, I also invited a Puti specialist from the local area to treat him.

In the days leading up to the operation, my father's condition gradually seemed to improve—he was more energetic and started to eat a little. With some help, he was able to get out of bed and walk around. Every single improvement encouraged us further… We forged on.

After ten days or so, an ultrasound revealed that the cancer cells had stopped spreading: we were all amazed. With no other real explanation, we attributed it to the Puti practices.

Later, the doctor who had performed the initial exploratory surgery returned. He was surprised that my father was doing well, especially since the operation hadn’t been performed yet. By revisiting the tests taken before his departure, the doctor confirmed that my father had had cancer, though now the tests were telling a very different story. Several other specialists had been consulted when my father was first being diagnosed… all have since reviewed their positions—there is not a single cancerous cell in his body anymore.

No one has been able to explain what actually happened—what is certain is that my father escaped death, and did so without an operation.

Shortly after, when the Puti College held its first meditation class in YunNan Province, my father signed up. After moving out of the hospital, he joined the intermediate Puti Meditation Class and has remained in good health.

We are very thankful to Master JinBodhi for his guidance.
