At the invitation of the Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver (Burnaby Branch), the Canada Bodhi Dharma Society held a seminar on “meditation and health” during a January meeting of the Chinese Mutual Assistance Group on the 8th.
A meditation instructor from the College, Nicholas Zhang presented on meditation’s origins, definitions, and relationship with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
The presentation, focusing on how meditation can help practitioners access energy, was well received by the thirty some participants. Additionally, Zhang detailed up-to-date scientific research on the correlation between meditation and mental-physical health. The increasing popularity of meditation in mainstream North America was also discussed. Audience questions further encompassed inquiries on meditation’s relationship with both religion and science.
Later, participants took part in a Puti Meditation exercise under Zhang’s guidance, learning relaxation and some of the unique elements and experiences of Puti Meditation.
At the end of the seminar, a number of participants registered for either the Meditation and Fitness Retreat Program or the Two-Day Introductory Program offered by the College. On behalf of the Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver (Burnaby Branch), Ms. Stella Lee presented certificates to both Zhang and the Canada Bodhi Dharma Society in appreciation, expressing a desire to cooperate with the College on a broader scale in the future.
